Trefl Sopot is the fourth Polish club in the European North Basketball league in the season 2022-2023 and the fifth overall.
The black-and-yellow team was founded in 1995 at the famous Baltic Sea resort town located in the Tri-City area (Gdynia, Sopota, Gdansk).
From 1999 until 2009 the team performed under the name of Prokom Trefl Sopot.
The agreement signed between Trefl Sportowa SA and Trefl Sopot SA allows the club to refer to the results achieved between June 30, 1995 and May 20, 2009.
Trefl Sopot won five Polish Championships (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and finished the season three times as a runner-up (2002, 2003, 2012).
Two bronze medals were added in 2001 and 2014.
The sea town club added six Polish Cups (Puchar Polski 2000, 2001, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2013) to its trophy list and three Polish Supercups (2001, 2012, 2013).
Trefl is a Sopot based jigsaw puzzle, board game and toy manufacturing and distributing company.
The Trefl company was founded in 1985 by Kazimierz Wierzbicki, a former basketball, skiing and volleyball instructor.
Sopot was represented by famous Polish players like Filip Dylewicz, Lukasz Koszarek and Adam Waczynski.
The club also featured numerous foreign players, for example, the EuroBasket 2003 champion Giedrius Gustas and the EuroBasket 2017 champion Saša Zagorac.
Sopot Trefl was coached by EuroChallenge winner Kārlis Muižnieks (2009-2012), NBA champion Žan Tabak and a Euroleague champion Darius Maskoliūnas.
The club also has achieved great results in youth competitions, contributing the players for the Polish national teams.
Sopot Trefl finished fifth in 2021 and last year participated in the FIBA Europe Cup, advancing from qualifying round up to Top 16 of this competition.
