Tłusty Šroda – Fat Wednesday: two big games in Warsaw

The 2025 European North basketball league playoffs continue on Wednesday, March 5, with two quarterfinal openers at the Polish capital. Dziki Warszawa will host nine time German champions Bamberg Baskets, while Polish Cup quarterfinalist Legia Warszawa will face Romanian Cup winners CSO Voluntari.



Dziki Warszawa vs Bamberg Baskets – tipoff at 18.00 CET


Series history: Dziki Warszawa and Bamberg Baskets will face each other for the first time.


Dziki Warszawa posted a 6-2 record and finished third in Group A.


Bamberg Baskets have a 7-1 record after a second place finish in Group B.


Dziki Warszawa are 3-1 on the home floor, after losing against Newcastle Eagles.


Bamberg Baskets are 3-1 on the road, with a lone loss at Inter Bratislava.


The winner of the series will face the best team from the quarterfinal match-up between Newcastle Eagles and Bakken Bears.



Key matchup: Janari Joesaar averages 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists for Dziki Warszawa.


Finland born Estonian forward graduated University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley – he shoots 58.8 percent from the two point line and 56.0 percent from the three point line.


KeyShawn Feazell averages 13.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists for Bamberg Baskets.


2024 ENBL finalist from Creighton University shoots 65.8 percent from the two point line and 57.1 percent from the three point line.



National championships: Dziki Warszawa are 8-11 at the PLK, one win behind the playoffs zone.


Second year team are on a five game losing streak, including three losses on the home floor


Dziki lost against 2022 ENBL champion Anwil Wloclawek, 94-101, on February 2, Polski Cukier Torun, 86-98, on February 7, and Legia Warszawa, 70-72, on March 1.


Dziki reached quarterfinals of the Polish Cup at Sosnowiec where they suffered defeat at the hands of 2023 ENBL bronze medalist Start Lublin.


Bamberg Baskets are 8-13 at the Bundesliga, two wins behind the play-in zone.


Bamberg lost at ALBA Berlin, 77-86, on March 3.


Bamberg Baskets reached the finals of the 2025 German Cup after defeating Frankfurt Skyliners, 76-63, on February 15.


The next day Bamberg fell at the hands of Jānis Gailītis coached Weissenfels, 87-97.

Legia Warszawa vs CSO Voluntari – tipoff at 20.00 CET


Series history: Legia Warszawa and CSO Voluntari will face each other for the first time.


Legia Warszawa posted a 6-2 record and finished third in Group B.


CSO Voluntari also had a 6-2 record and secured second place in Group A.


Legia Warszawa are 3-1 on the home floor, after a 73-87 loss against Bamberg Baskets.


Heiko Rannula one week ago took the coaching reins of Legia, after club parted ways with Ivica Skelin.


CSO Voluntari are 3-1 on the road, with a lone loss at the hands of Newcastle Eagles.


The winner of the series will face the best team from the quarterfinal match-up between Inter Bratislava and Valmiera Glass ViA.



Key matchup: Andrzej Pluta averages 11.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in six games for Legia Warszawa.


Polish national team shooting guard shoots 63.2 percent from the two point line and 27.9 percent from the three point line.


Kodi Justice averages 11.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists for CSO Voluntari.


Arizona State University guard shoots 50.0 percent from the two point line and 33.3 percent from the three point line.



National championships: Legia Warszawa are 11-8 at the PLK.


Anwil Wloclawek lead the table with a 16-3 record, followed by Trefl Sopot (13-5), Polish Cup winner Gornik Walbrzych (13-6) and Start Lublin (12-7).


Legia won the Warsaw derby at Dziki, 72-70, on March 1.


CSO Voluntari are 15-6 at the Liga Nationala.


Voluntari lost at Pitešti, 92-100, on February 28.


Ainars Bagatskis and his men won the 2025 Romanian Cup on February 16, after defeating EuroCup team Cluj Napoca, Targu Mureš and Final Eight host Oradea.
