Melvin and DeVoe on fire, Lublin deal first loss to Šiauliai

Cleveland Melvin and Gabe DeVoe combined for 46 points to lift Polski Cukier Start Lublin over previously undefeated Šiauliai 83-75 on Wednesday, January 11, at the Globus arena in eastern Poland.

Players of the game

When two shooters have a shooting night simultaneously, the opposing team is in trouble.

Cleveland Melvin scored 30 points on December 21 and had 25 points three weeks later.

A former DePaul standout made 11-of-16 field goal attempts, including a 8-of-10 barrage inside the three point line.

Melvin added three three-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds.

Gabe DeVoe joined forward with 21 points.

A former Clemson shooting guard proved his ACC experience on 8-of-17 shooting from the field.

DeVoe dished out a game high six assists and stole the ball three times.

Mateusz Dziemba and Michal Grzesiak scored 11 points each.

Dziemba registered a game high four steals, while 18 year old Grzesiak had two steals.

Eimantas Stankevičius sparked Šiauliai offense from the bench.

Shooting guard scored 15 points on 6-of-12 accuracy from the court.

Arminas Urbutis contributed with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Captain forced four fouls as well.

Martynas Varnas had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Paulius Danusevičius chipped in with 10 points.

Key stats

Polski Cukier Start Lublin starters outscored Šiauliai, 68-37.

Latvian center Klāvs Čavars didn`t had that much work on the offensive end as his teammates were making the shots.

Start lead never exceeded 14 points and Šiauliai stayed at the striking distance throughout the game.

Well balanced Lithuanian team showed its depth as seven players scored at least nine points each.

Lublin outscored Šiauliai in the paint, 48-28.

The home team shot 59% inside the three point line (25/42) versus 44% for the Sun City squad (17/31).

Fair enough, Šiauliai had 17 more free throw attempts (3/4 vs 14/21).

Antanas Sireika`s team cut the gap to six points twice, 78-72 and 81-75.

On the first occasion, Cleveland Melvin answered with a three point shot.

Mateusz Dziembski set the final score with 31 second left.

Game notes

Polski Cukier Start Lublin improved to 3-1 to secure at least a 50% winning percentage in the regular season.

Three wins over TalTech Optibet, Sigal Prishtina and Šiauliai doesn`t guarantee a play-off ticket yet but they are pretty close.

Šiauliai dropped to 2-1.

Antanas Sireika used a seven player rotation on Wednesday night.

They missed players like Donatas Sabeckis and Nemanja Bezbradica.
