Liège Basket wake up early and defeat Valmiera Glass ViA




Royal Liège Basket trailed by seven points early in the game but managed to turn things around quickly to beat Valmiera Glass ViA, 97-68, on Wednesday, December 13, at the Country hall in northern Wallonia, Belgium.


Players of the game

All 12 players scored for the Liège Basket.


EJ Anosike led all scorers with 21 points on 7/13 shooting from the field and a perfect 6/6 from the three point line.


Forward joined the Wallonian club three weeks ago, replacing Rey Idowu.


Jamelle Hagins posted 16 points.


A former Delaware center grabbed 13 rebounds in less than 23 minutes of action.


Olivier Troisfontaines had 12 points and three assists.


Kevin Tumba registered nine points and 12 rebounds.


Guntis Sīpoliņš was the top performer for Valmiera with 15 points and 11 rebounds.


Sean Seneca Knight had 13 points.


Pauls Miglinieks finished with 10 points.



Key stats

Valmiera jumped to a quick 8-15 lead in the eighth minute.


Five consecutive points by Pauls Miglinieks allowed Latvian team to stay ahead after the first quarter, 14-20.


Poor performance in the paint coupled with poor shooting from deep ruined the chances for Oskars Virsis team.


Liège Basket dominated in the paint, 46-14.


The hosts scored more points on fast breaks.


Liège Basket went on a 16-0 run in the fourth quarter to double its lead, 83-54, with less than five minutes left.


Valmiera went 10/39 from the three point line.



Game notes

Royal Liège Basket improved to 3-1, while Valmiera dropped to 0-4.


Alex Zampier`s men jumped to the second position, thanks to convincing home win against Zastal Zielona Gora.


The national anthems were played before the game, just like in Valmiera.

Format

Four best teams from each group will qualify for the playoffs (A1-B4, A2-B3, A3-B2, A4-B1).


The 2024 playoffs – home and away, best-of-two series – will take place from February 1 until March 20.


The 2024 Final Four will take place on April 9-10.
