Dziki defeat Valmiera, may finish in second, third or fourth place

Dziki Warszawa ended the regular season on a high note and defeated Valmiera Glass ViA, 85-73, on Thursday, January 23, at the Hala Kolo in central Poland.


Players of the game

Nikola Radicevič was brilliant for Dziki Warszawa.


Serbian guard scored a game high 17 points on 7/11 shooting from the field.


Radicevič dished out nine assists and registered one steal.


Denzel Andersson was another big hitter.


Swedish forward had 14 points on excellent 4/6 shooting from the field and 4/5 from the free throw line.


Jaroslaw Mokros and Mateusz Szlachetka added 13 and 12 points respectively.


DaQuan Smith led Valmiera with 15 points on outstanding 6/8 shooting from the field, including a 3/4 effort from the three point line.


Fordham big man Rostislav Novitskyi had 14 points, five rebounds and two steals.


Small forward Artis Ate returned on floor with six points and five rebounds.

Key stats

Dziki Warszawa went on three runs and led by 22 points, 72-50, with 47 seconds left in third quarter.


Valmiera rallied for a big counter offensive and cut the gap to eight points, 78-70 and 81-73, with 89 seconds left in regulation.


DaQuan Smith`s three pointer was the last field goal for the visitors.


John Fulkerson renewed a double digit for Dziki Warszawa, 83-73.


Both teams were successful from the three point line – Dziki 10/30 and Valmiera 10/26.


Dziki scored more points off turnovers, 17-4, and on fast breaks, 16-6.



Game notes

Dziki Warszawa improved to 6-2, while Valmiera Glass ViA.


Krzysztof Szablowski and his men may finish in second, third or fourth place in the Group A.


Dziki needed to win by 16 points to maintain chances to finish first.


Valmiera will win the Group A if CSO Voluntari prevail at Spartak Pleven and Newcastle Eagles lose at Tartu Ulikool.


A four way tie will rank teams as follows: Valmiera 2-1, -8; Newcastle 2-1, +10; Voluntari 1-2, +15; Dziki 1-2, -17.


Dziki will finish second if CSO Voluntari lose at Spartak Pleven and Newcastle Eagles suffer a defeat at Tartu Ulikool.


A three way tie will rank teams as follows: Newcastle 1-1 and +6; Dziki 1-1 and +3; Valmiera 1-1 and -9.


If Newcastle and Voluntari win, Dziki will finish third and Valmiera fourth.
