CSO Voluntari make history, Mike Caffey is MVP

Mike Caffey scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half to lead CSO Voluntari past Newcastle Eagles, 95-82, and to the 2025 ENBL championship on Wednesday, April 9, at the iconic Gopass arena in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Back to back threes in the third quarter, two more concecutive threes, a steal and confidence – CSO Voluntari point guard took it personal.


Long Beach State University star finished with 22 points and earned the 2025 Finals MVP trophy.


Lewis Sullivan had a game high 23 points on amazing 10/12 shooting from the field.


He added six rebounds.


Lee Skinner posted 18 points and nine rebounds on equally great work inside.


Big man earned his place in All tournament team.


Justin Edler-Davis had 16 points and 11 rebounds.


Mike Okauru led Newcastle Eagles with 20 points.


Money Mike filled the stat sheet – five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a +/- ratio of 3.


Only Darius Defoe topped him with a +/- ratio of 8 in his first European final.


Mr. 28 scored eight points on 4/5 shooting from the field.


Trey Pulliam went 4/6 from the three point line to finish with 14 points.


Seneca Knight had 12 points and five rebounds.



Key stats

Newcastle Eagles shot 66 percent in the first quarter thanks to a great start by Mr. 28 Darius Defoe and Money Mike Okauru.


Duo went 6/7 from the field.


The Eagles improved their work on the glass and scored many second chance points in the second quarter.


They tied the game at 46, after a buzzer beater three by Trey Pulliam.


Mike Caffey scored four consecutive threes in the second half to turn the tide for CSO Voluntari.


Romanian club took a six points lead at the end of the third quarter, 67-61, and never looked back.


De`Sean Allen-Eikens received a technical foul with 04.08 left when CSO Voluntari led by six, 77-71.


Allen-Eikens was ejected after he received an unsportmanlike foul with 02.18 to go.


Lee Skinner converted both free throws, and the possession ended with another two points by Lewis Sullivan, 90-75.


CSO Voluntari secured a double digit lead the rest of the way.



Game notes

Chicago Bulls legendary theme was played before teams took the center stage.


Newcastle Eagles fans danced and cheered all night long.


CSO Voluntari improved to 10-2, while Newcastle Eagles ended their second season with a 9-3 record.


Ainars Bagatskis and his men won their second trophy of the season after they secured the 2025 Romanian Cup.


CSO Voluntari claimed ENBL trophy in their second attempt, after a 81-85 loss at the Bakken Bears a year ago.


Ionut Georgescu, a former Voluntari general manager, helped to present the ENBL trophy to his former team.


Newcastle Eagles climbed two ladders up.


Marc Steutel and Tyneside boys made it to their first Final Four and then advanced to their first European final.


Their fans were the best – they enjoyed a trip to Bratislava to the fullest.
